You mean the "emergency base-layer winter underwear?" For sock liners, I'd highly recommend the polypro: they breathe ever so much better. A sock liner can be a great thing for comfort and blister protection.

However, do keep the EBWU when you can get them: cut off a leg to roll a kilt for travel!

If I were hiking in kilt hose, I'd probably go with something more high-tech. I mostly wear my kilts to formal events, kilt nights and festivals/games. My free solution serves me perfectly well for walking to the bar/beer tent.

You'll find the polypro is far superior. I've worn them on a hot day and my feet never feel too sweaty, yet they make an immense difference during the winter as well.

When in cold weather, I use thin socks under hose - all other times, I don't use them.

Thanks to this thread, I tried it (sock liners) today, and it seemed to work well. I can't say definitely better, but I'll try it again tomorrow when it's supposed to be 70+ F here.
