It's true that I've put up a lot of stuff here that's either killer-dress-up, or tartan goth proto-foreplay...*AHEM*...maybe not what the ladies have in mind. And so to present the other side of the show...

Intelligent shoes, skirt, white blouse. Personally, I hate the sash on the woman on the right, but whatever...

If you want to look conservative and it's not too hot, then a simple white blouse with a kilt skirt, nylons and normal black shoes is classic. You can go just like this, only without the sash...

Or this, in the background. I know you can't see her very well, but you get the idea.

Now. how about when it's blazing hot at the Games in the summer? You're not 22 years old any more, you're not inclined to look like you're trolling to find a Man, but you don't want to expire in the heat. Miniskirts are out. You're the Den Mother and in the alto section of the Church Choir....what should you wear?

How about a scoop neck t-shirt together with a really light kilt from sportkilt, and team that up with sandals?

One of their models is not nineteen years old. She's trim, but she's not some hotsy-snotsy model, either. She's got on a bias cut tartan skirt with a simple white blouse in one picture. The bias-cut skirt, since it doesn't have pleats, doesn't require so much material, and would be cooler than a pleated skirt. How about a bias-cut knee-length skirt in poly-viscose?

I have to say that while there are rules and rules and tradition and guys who say IT MUST BE THIS WAY when it comes to kilts, I've never once heard about anyone ragging on a woman for wearing her skirt the wrong way. The ONLY thing I've ever heard anyone getting tense about is wearing the sash over the wrong shoulder.

BTW, I understand that plaids/tartans cut/aligned on the bias are more flattering to the "fuller figured woman"' than tartans aligned straight up and down. Besides, they're gorgeous....

ALL Women are beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If we treated all women like that, the world would be a much nicer place.

Ahhh, here we go... real clothes! ;)

I don't mind corsets, high heels, and nice outfits that show a little, but I wouldn't wear most of those out to Highland Games, or to sessions at the pub. I'd prefer to be comfortable. And if it involves tartan (as most of those first dresses did), I kind of want it to be a special tartan to me and not "off-the-rack" stuff, so that limits a lot of outfits for me.

As does anything that looks uncomfortable. As I said, I don't mind corsets and heels... I do mind tops that are short waisted and poorly constructed and make me tug at them constantly. This is probably why I wanted to learn how to sew. I hate most things available off the rack. Just under 6 feet tall and an hourglass figure... bleh (the bleh is not for my figure, but rather for the fit of clothes available.... I don't want to have to take everything I own to the tailor's just to make it fit better, too). Not to mention picky!

(now, if I could actually sew something normal instead of a bustle gown... heheh! Although, don't be surprised -- when I get back to sewing, that is -- to hear about me showing up to a kilt night in a tartan Victorian gown someday ;) heheheh)

I'm going to have to think about the bias-cut skirt, but I have to admit I'm personally not too fond of them (although the last photo posted of one looks nice). I just like the looks of kilted skirts a lot more, or lots of pleats.

If I recall correctly, the women of the clan are supposed to wear a sash over the left shoulder. Only the Chiefs wife (and maybe daughter?) can wear it over the right shoulder.

Or so I hear tell. Then again, I might have that totally backwards.

And honestly I don't think anybody really gives a rip.
