Thumbs up San Francisco Kilt Store now Online

Every now and then the Scottish store off of Union Square in San Francisco comes up. It is actually two stores in one: The Whisky Shop and William Glen & Son (formerly Hector Russel). The whisky side has had a working web site for a long time (here), but until now, the kilt site was just a place holder. Just wanted to point out that the situation has been remedied: http://www.wmglen.com/

Was in the shop the other day, and they said the hope to expand the web site with more merchandise in the future. They also confirmed that they will be selling Utilikilts at the store as soon as the shipment arrives. (No new whisky tastings on the horizon, however.)

    Best regards,

    Jake

Well, you do have to factor in that they are importing their traditional stuff from Scotland, so there is built-in import duties and the weak dollar to contend with. Plus, they run a brick and mortar shop in a high rent district in one of the most expensive cities in the country. That said, they are definitely not a discount operation. Personally I only buy small items at the store, like kilt pins, whisky, and other necessities. Nice folks though, and they do wear kilts at the shop.

The prices seem comparable to Caringorm Imports (formerly Hector Russell) here, remember you get what you pay for, I for one would rather pay a wee bit more for quality than go for tat.

Patience Jake I'm sure the Gold Bros. will buy them out and sell cut rate Utilikilts.

That's a great idea, Jay. Perhaps someone could "obtain" it for us at the next SOKS event while Grant is distracted by a kilt check. . . . Oh wait.

    Best regards

Still seems like there are plenty of other spots to get good quality, hand-made stuff for better prices.

The thing with the Hector Russell name is that you know the level of quality that you get with them, I am lucky in that I have several Tartan Shops in driving distance, I would say that out of them all I personally would rather go to a shop like Hector Russell, Caringorm because the level of expertise of the staff is unparalleled, and the quality of the goods is excellent.
