Plaids and Baldricks
Bare with me, I just joined and this is my first post.
Here's the question: A plaid is worn from the left shoulder, across the back, under the right arm, across to and over the left shoulder, and off the back. This seams to be true whether you are right or left handed.
A baldrick is worn across the right shoulder to the left hip for a right handed draw. The baldrick crosses over the plaid and under the waist belt. That's great, if your right handed! What about us lefties? A few companies make left draw (right hip) baldricks, but that puts the baldrick and the plaid running the same line. Won't look good and woud be rather bunched up. A back draw still has to be worn across the same way. Any suggestions.

well, too bad for you lefties.
i'm sure you could switch shoulders and stuff for left hand purposes.

hello and welcome!
well in my opinion I would say that you should do what is the most comfortable for yourself. As a member of the SCA (society for creative anachronisms), and being a historical accuracy police man I know that you want to look good and accurate but I would say that you should do it backwards. With my heavy fighting kit its all about comfort.
now this leads me to my next question, how often are you going to be drawing the bladed weapon? if you aren't drawing it at all or very little I suggest learning to draw right handed. Also don't buy a baldric that is specifically left handed, that will cost you way too much!!
just my thoughts, go for comfort!
and WELCOME!!!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I've found a source that has three different Baldrics in Right or Left handed at the same price. Thought about putting a targee and dagger off right handed baldric and wearing the sword off belt.

ive come across the same problem with the left handed baldric, i had one made so that i could carry a rapier at TRF. the samd baldric works great with my basket hilt but is in the way of the plaid . the back holder is not a great option because you cannot bend over without being knocked in the head . so... what is the proper procedure?
i have been marching with the scots at scarbarough ren faire and it is live steel, so it kinda matters to me
thank you for letting me look and post WHAT A GREAT FORUM!!!!!
