Preservation of kilts?

I bought 16 hangers from the company in this thread, and they are FANTASTIC! I either have to stop at 16 kilts or order more hangers

You did not state if your problem is short term or long term storage.

For short term storage may I suggest the method of hanging I found works the best here in the shop.

The hangers are free!!!!!!!

Just go to your local mall or any clothing store. When they sell skirts and such they take their hangers and throw them in a box under the counter. At the end of the day many stores throw the hangers away.
If you ask politely they will be more than happy to let you rummage around and find a couple of hangers like this.



I like the style highlighted with the pencils. They have nice wide openings and rubber inserts to prevent slipping.


Then open your kilt all the way. As shown here.



The next step is to fold your kilt in half. Aprons together. As this picture shows.



Then place one hanger on the aprons and one on the pleats. This way you are only placing the clip of the hanger over two layers of kilt each.



Then fold the kilt in half again bringing the two hangers together.



As you can see this supports the entire kilt. The pleats and aprons hang smoothly and without distortion usually encountered when using only one hanger or a hanger that is too short.

And remember the most important part...THE HANGERS ARE FREE!!! There really is no reason to spend all kinds of money on specially named "kilt hangers" when all they are really designed for are trousers.

I try to avoid the wooden pants type hangers as I have found that the spring is just not strong enough to support a full weight Kilt.
The kilt in my photos is my Barb Tewksbury Tank in 16oz. Wool. It weighs over 4 pounds and can be well supported using two hangers as I have shown. I have never had a kilt fall off the hangers when using this method and the kilt looks as good today as when it did when Barb first sent it to me.

In all seriousness, the main thing to remember is that you should store the kilt hanging, not folded up and in a drawer. That's key. The method of hanging is secondary.

Can you expand on this. I have been told the best way was flat in a drawer, rolled, and hung and I am confused. Can you explain why. Now all my kilts are in long plastic tubs because we have a problem with silverfish and I want to keep them out. (cedar doesn't seem to deter them)
