Coyote Run
My family and I just went to the McHenry Highland Festival on Saturday and saw Coyote Run. We loved their music and they are great entertainers. They were very friendly and we spoke to them several times throughout the festival. Here is a link of their video "But for Blood." Their lineup has changed since making this video, but I thought this was a good representation of their style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW1mI...eature=related

I've seen Coyote Run a number of times at Local highland games/celtic festivals. They do indeed put on a great show. They even had belly dancers at the last show I caught.

I've also seen Coyote Run several times and they just don't seem to do it for me. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's not necessarily the style of music but more the presentation. When I've seen them, and I have given them several tries as I want to like them, they kind of come across as Renn faire entertainers as opposed to musicians. I'm not saying they aren't good musically but the entertainment value seems to be more important than the music.
Different horses as they say.
I will say however that everone from the band I have talked to is very nice and they do seem to be very popular lately. They seem to be in greater demand at more far ranging festivals the last few years. I would certainly give them a listen if they are playing a festival near you.

Saw Coyote Run last year at Grandfather. They will be back this year. Yes, they are not your typical "celtic" pub band. They actually have lyrics that make you think. Their members change over time like the others do. David is the heart and soul of the group. They play bagpipes, wear kilts, and are fine musicians. Can't wait to hear them live again.

To be fair to the band (from my hometown after all), when I saw them a week ago, they were much better musicians than I perhaps expected. I haven't the foggiest why I would have expected that, but I was wrong. They were also extremely nice and entertaining.
Now to be fair to you, it was at a Celtic festival and it just wasn't what I was wanting to hear. I don't want to stifle any bands creativity (as if they're reading this/care) but it just didn't do it for me.
But on the other hand...

Thanks, David for the link. I listened to few of their performances at YouTube. They are indeed more cerebral than most bands you hear at festivals. I enjoyed their performances and will be looking for them. Quite a few talented musicians have come out ot the little town of Williamsburg, ie,. Bruce Hornsby.

I"ve seen Coyote Run several times and always enjoyed the show. One thing I've never understood, is that while they play the Potomac Celtic Festival yearly, I have yet to see them at their hometown's (Williamsburg, Virginia)Scottish festival
