Welcome to a world-wide community.
If you are looking for a kilt to celebrate you German heritage, Rocky at USAKilts
(one of our sponsors) has created two special tartans in the last year. One is a German-American tartan and the other is called German Heritage (I think). I have the latter and it is a beauty. The colors are based on the black, red, and yellow of the German flag, while the German-American tartan has blue and white as well.
Good luck on your Air Force Career.

Firstly, from the Big Apple.
Wow, sounds like November will be the month for you! What birthday will it be? I hope the wedding is not that same month.
Speaking of which, what is handfasting?

It is the same month! My enlistment bumped up our date by about 4 months. We decided we'd rather be apart early on than risk me getting stationed across the pond and her being stuck here. I will be 20 years old. (yeah, we're young.)
Handfasting? Seriously? Bad example, but you've seen braveheart I assume? When the priest wraps the tartan around their hands. (By the way, that's not where we got the idea - she's VERY scottish and this has been one her "little girl" dreams forever.)

Thanks for the response. I can only imagine how you will be approaching that month. I wish you all the best in all the steps in life you'll be taking then.
Sorry that I wasn't more familiar with the term "handfasting," but, as my handle here implies, I'm not at all Scottish.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting. I think lots of Ale and Whiskey will get me through it (I'm technically still a college kid, so it's ok!)
I didn't know what it was until her either.
