    Long Boots with a kilt?

Greetings from Colorado, my first post here. I've worn two "budget" kilts previously; sad to say, but one of the ultra cheap great kilts(to my embarrasment now), and an SK. My proper wool kilt is getting ordered tomorrow. Here is the question: For day wear hiking, hunting, going to the games, would it be improper to wear long leather "mideval" style boots with my kilt? This is what I have done in the past. Of course for going out to the pub, and more formal occassions, I think shoes would be better. But these boots were made to my foot, and are darned comfortable, and I wouldn't want to stop wearing them. I can say this; the wife loves the look of my legs in them, and the good Lord blessed me with good calves(must not have come from the scottish blood). Thanks all in advance, and I look forward to learning and sharing.

    Welcome from the California coast.

If you wife likes your boots then that's all that really matters. Have a look at the style threads for some ideas on what others are wearing but follow your own instincts.

Ok,I am a traditionalist,so if you are going to wear your new wool kilt, then I think that traditional brogues or short boots would show your calves off to advantage.Of course wear your long boots if you wish, but have a look at the many pictures on this site and I think you will agree that long boots are not quite right.

    Oh,and welcome,from Inverness-shire.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but my long boots look quite good with the kilt:

    Welcome to the forum.
I think for a first post this is a excellent question.
I think others are right, traditional tank boots or shoes would look best, but those long boots do look great.Do what feels right and look at yourself in a long mirror to see if it looks right.
I have to wonder though how authentic these boots are?

    Referring to the picture...
The boots I have are a hand made custom fit in heavy chocolate bullhide leather. Whilst not desperaging the boots shown in the photo, mine are of far higher quality, oh, and lace up the back. Thanks for the tips, mates. Tips on the brouges noted. All of you know how difficult it can be to swallow a whole outfit price, hence my peicing as I go. Of course, I can always wear my combat boots with the kilt.

    Welcome from Ithaca, NY

You mentioned that you wife likes the boots...

...a Ukrainian minister once told me "happy wife is a happy life".
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear
