Unless this is a new and different tartan, the Confederate Memorial tartan was designed by Dr. Phillip D. Smith in 1995. He also designed the Federal Memorial tartan.
Also, according to the STA information, D. C. Dalgleish in Selkirk have the exclusive rights to weave the Confederate Memorial tartan in wool.
The museum gift shop stocks ties and scarves in the Confederate Memorial tartan, and we can get 11 oz wool cloth 54" wide at $65/yd. We can have either the Confederate or the Federal Memorial tartans woven in 16 oz wool, 29" wide, at $65/yd, and I've made kilts in both.

Ummm, actually, the Confederate Memorial tartan was designed by Dr. Phil Smith, who also designed the Federal Memorial tartan and a couple other Confederate tartans. Dr. Smith also designed a bunch of other tartans, including the Arizona State tartan...and he co-authored books about tartans.
STA has seven Confederate related tartans listed. D.C. Dalgliesh seems to be the mill for the Confederate tartatns under discussion.
Of course Alexis Malcolm promoted the Confederate tartan on her old website. Still looking for the info on it and military tartans on her new site.

Here's another photograph of my drummer & me taken two months ago. There are minor differences between the two. My kilt was sewn in 1997, while drummie's was created last year.
I receive more compliments for my CSA tartan kilt than all my others combinded.

Slainte yall,
steve

I absolutely ADORE the Confederate Memorial tartan. I'm descended from Confederate soldiers. I'll have to have that tartan someday.

Firstly, I'm removing my "Moderator Hat" for this thread. If anyone is unsure what that means, please see this recent thread posted by Panache.
In light of recent discussions, regarding the Gold Brothers and copyright infringements with the Isle of Skye tartan I find this to come at an interesting time. The mention of an American company, producing that same tartan (whether under a different name or not is irrelevant as the design is the same) has been eluded to. There's no need for me to be vague. That North American company was/is Frugal Corner.
Now, just to be up front, I do not like their practices in the past, and I have no respect for them because of it. I've made no secret of that. However, this post is NOT to "sling mud."
I would like to ask Shriner: do you know whether or not Frugal Corner has obtained the appropriate permissions and/or paid any possible fees in order to weave this cloth? I'm not sure what those fees may be. But, if Daghlish has the exclusive rights for wool, that tells me there are rights to be had and this is probably a copyrighted design. I ask you, Shriner, since you brought their weaving of this to light. You've also made it clear, in other posts, that you are friends with them and have sold their wears at Highland Games. So, this is why I ask you. I also suspect they're doing it in acrylic? I won't veer off into my thoughts on that, as it's not the point.
I think it is a perfectly logical and justified question to ask, as they have made very clear in the past that they have no qualms with producing a copyrighted tartan without paying royalties and/or obtaining permissions. So, I feel it is a more than fair query to ask of in regards to this tartan.
Again, my moderator hat is off on this one. I will in no way be moderating this thread at this point. I'm here to participate as a member only.

Tattoo Bradley,
The Sons of Confederste Veterans, the group that own all rights to that tartan came to Frugal Corner to have them produce it in affordable material. I am a Florida camp member and will be attending the Annual Reunion in Charlotte NC mid month. Hopefully wearing my new kilt.
John
I hope that answers your questions, Frugal Corner has been great to me and the groups I am involved with. I have sold 125 New World Celt kilts, 50 Masonic kilts and look forward to the Confederate tartan. They have a nice store front and Mark Wright is full time at the store.
