Rex_T and Ted Crocker:
Thanks for the info and comments on dance wax... I do need to know the venue's policies on its use. Or at least be very conservative about it.

Well, thank you! I like that pose and you pose really well, regardless. That's why I chose to make such a picture.

A classic look here in the Lone Star state [except those boots need waxing].

Your attire looks very nice, you could pass for a Hopi friend of mine. I might have added a bolo tie-but it would have to be the "right" one. Well done pushing the envelope, as was mentioned earlier.

I remember that guy from the Do's and Don'ts... he a don't. A hat, belt, bolo tie, leather day sporran and gruby unpolished high boots with evening wear... during the day... and his waistcoat is longer than his jacket.. DON'T! Nothing classic about that guy.. at least not classy.

Oh yeah. I've seen that in the Do's and Don't's thread. Yeah - I like the look except for the hose/flashes - which I think won't work with ANY calf-high boots. That location's Texas, so the whole getup is more or less appropriate.
When I tried hose in a normal fashion with the boots, I didn't like it on me at all. Rex_T said it - a little hose peeking out - would give it a more finished look.
For some, the beveled top of a cowboy boot seems to be the offending feature. As soon as you level that top, it quiets the nerves. Hence, laced-up ropers work - (see KiltedFirePiper's post with pics). [I'm with Riverkilt, though, when he laments - hiker-, worker-, biker- boots yes, but cowboy boots no?]
Some may have an absolute dislike for the western boot/kilt combination, but I think it's just that we're not used to that look yet. As with many matters of style, it's mostly subjective. Even the ghillie brogues, that quintessential part of the formal ensemble, is frowned upon by a certain kilted legend on this board. BUT oftentimes majority edges out and we follow what the majority (or majority of experts) holds to be the norm (for the most part). Luckily, there are MANY choices and options (of accessories) to pick from.
But I think it's all good - wear whatever you want! (But be ready for the consequences! LOL)
Thanks to all for your comments.

I think part of the problem is that the hose worn by the gentleman in The Sp8's post, are of a light color. If they were black, then it might actually look OK. Not great, but functional.
I like the kilt, though.

Thanks Kilted_John. Yes, I agree - I thought that if you wore black hose to the right height, it'll mask the beveling of the cowboy boots making it look flat topped (at least from a distance).

That look is not for me.
But do I favor kilts in varied venues in the spirit of supporting a “Big Tent" kilt wearing community.
