I have totally been fascinated by these types of posts on the board. It really could be interesting, and quite helpful to have them all grouped together that way as well!

I'm having a hard time coming up with a counter argument. How's this (just for arguments sake): I think people will post pictures of nice things I'll want to buy and I'll be spending money on kilts AND knives.

Not in favor of a section for this. There are other venues where weapons may be discussed at length. This is a kilt forum.

I have been enjoying the historical scottish pistols thread but I think that the Kilt Accessories forum works well for Scot / Kilt related weapons.
As Kent said, this a Kilt forum.

No one said it wasn't. The point of my original posting was simply this: At the present time there are threads scattered all over the place on sgian dubhs (to use one example). They are in DIY, accessories, heraldry and tartan, etc. Now no one is attempting to highjack the forum, the suggestion was that it would seem to make a lot of sense if ALL related topics were under a single heading. Those people who had no interest in the topic could do what we all do-- skip over it if not interested. Those who are interested in Rab Gordon's latest sgian or Kirby Wise's most recent sword, or who had a question about something on e-Bay, could go to the one spot where their question would be most likely to be answered.
As I see it, X MARKS THE SCOT is, in some respects, like a giant filing cabinet full of useful kilt and KILT RELATED information. As some of the kilt related information appertains to sgians dubh, targes, claymores, etc. it would seem to make sense to see that it is filed where those who are interested will have easy access to it.
There have been a dozen or so replies to this posting, and only one was negative. Seems to me that by and large at least some of the members would be happy to have all this information easy to access.

When I was researching the construction and repair of traditional kilts, I ran into the same issue. I ended up keeping an index of links in a PM to myself for several months. When I was mostly finnished with my project, I created a thread with a post containing the index of links. As I find useful links, I still update the index. The same goes for a kilt jacket conversion project and index which is in that same thread.
I know how agrovating the search feature can be, so the index is there for anyone who knows about the thread. If you don't know where the thread is... use the search feature.
Just a suggestion if things don't work out for a sub forum in the accessory forum for Scottish arms and armour. Good luck.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Could not agree more with you MoR. It would not take away anything from the overall theme of this forum and would only make things easier to navigate.
