I do believe you know what side of the fence I land on, it is nice to see the workmanship in these, the lining up of the tartan on the back shows attention to detail and skill, thank you for yet again showing a wonderful alternative from what is normally seen.

They aren't my bag, but as Glen wrote, the workmanship is superb. I think a doublet in a subtle tartan like Black Watch and made with black facings would be more to my liking if I were ever to wear a tartan doublet.

The top one makes me think "checkered suit" (sorry), the Stewart at the bottom - that one strikes me as being an impressive outfit, and the middle - that one I would have to see with a kilt (though with trousers it looks quite good).
To matter Glen, no matter our opinions they do look very well made.

Some people can pull them off, but I don't think I could. That said, I'm strangely drawn to that first photo, and the others demonstrate an exceptional display of workmanship.

What weight of material would be used in the production of a tartan doublet?

I like it! But then, doing an 18th century Highlander impression for living history programs, I'm more attuned to tartan jackets and waistcoats with the kilt.
