    putees...tartan???

    Ok,
So I have gotten to really like and enjoy wearing this type of footwear (so to speak) Od Hose tops, and OD Putees...all WWII vintage. They are very comforatable and keeps both the cold and the bugs and the rain out. They also look pretty cool...giving the outfit that bulked up look.

Heres my thought...I am planning on ordering this next week a SWK Standard in the Nightstalker tartan...I was thinking about seeing if Jerry can take some of his wool Black shadow tartan material and making a pair of these to wear wit hthe kilt...maybe either with the Od hose tops or a granite bulky kilt hose.....What do you guys (and gals) think?
    Cheers,
    CHad

I didn't think Jerry was in the business of custom orders.

Well, you could order a couple of the fly plaids in Nightstalker tartan and make... what ever it is from that.

    Yeah,
The reason that I was looking at the Black shadow tartan is because from a distant it would look solid black until you turn the right way were you could see the subtle tartan. I agree that I don't know how an actual tartan puttee would look..I just though the shadow tartan would be cool because of the solid color to tartan change.

Ok, I follow you now; it was the Nightstalker tartan that I was getting mixed up on. Panache said that the shadow tartan doesn't show up too well, but I don't know for sure. It might be better to just go with black wool fabric.

    I have no idea.

May I ask why? And do you normally see puttees being worn with civilian attire (mufti), apart from the occasional gent that would wear them with shooting attire?

If you look at military-issue puttees, they are items for use in the field, and to my knowledge, none were ever made in tartan. The Canadians wore blue puttees, but my traditionalist and living historian mindset says a firm "no" on this.

    Well,
I normally wear them with my mlitary style outfit (WWII KD shirt with my Black Watch Kilt) I pipe 7 days a week at a local resort here, and was thinking about different types of outfits I could wear, also not just for piping, and I thought it would be differnt, especially if worn outside the OD color scheme, however, even my civiian attire will have my Liverpool Scottish theme to it, with unit badges and such....thought a Civi style puttee would be kind of cool...just a thought...thats why I thought I'd see what others thought of the idea.

If you're trying to put together an impression of a specific unit and/or time period, I would stick with military issue gear that would be appropriate to that unit.
