New Year's Eve and Day pictures

...Now, I have a question about that martini (I'm assuming it's a martini). Do I detect ice cubes? .

I am enjoying a Gibson.

A Gibson is a Martini with two cocktail onions in place of the one olive.

As I understand it the term "Martini" can be used for any of the following drinks made with either gin or vodka.

Martini (made with the spirit of choice and a small measure of vermouth and garnished with an olive)

Dirty Martini (same as above but with a small amount of the olive juice added to the drink)

Gibson ( same as above but garnished with two cocktail onions)

The reason one uses a cocktail glass for drinks that are served cold but without ice is that the stem prevents the drink from warming up from the heat in one's hands.

I have had a Lemon Drop or Kamikaze on the rocks but always in a double old fashioned glass. The cocktail glass doesn't hold enough liquid to make it a good choice to use it for drinks that require ice.

Subsequently drinks in cocktail glasses should be drunk fairly quickly to enjoy them at their peak.

There is a funny saying about how many martinis one should drink

"Martinis are like a woman's breasts, one is far too few, and three far too many!"

That picture was painted by an old roommate of mine back in the days after college. It was then given to the priest who married us and he then gave it to us a few years back.

The artist had a lot of female power, but also a lot of anger, well expressed in the composition.
