I think I have an idea of what the issue is, is it made so that it is worn with a sporran belt or hanging from a kilt belt? Mine are made so that they hang from a kilt belt, and so the sporran belt loop also acts as reinforcement which stiffens the back of the sporran.

    Suggestion

That is a fine looking early effort.

If I may offer some thoughts?

It looks like the hanger loop is made of the same leather as the body?
If so, I would suggest using a piece of very heavy leather, like belt leather itself. This would make a sturdy loop and also stiffen the back.

A heavier loop would also resist wear better. If you use a thicker leather for the loop, you may also get a tool to put a smooth edge on the loop before you sew it to the body. Tandy has these edge slickers. This will probably require applying dye to the leather to get the black color (don't forget the inside of the loop!) and a leather finish as well.

Keep trying new variations. I did about 10 before I ever got one that was decent to sell, and even after about 35, I'm still finding ways to do it better.

    Best wishes,
    Tom

Thanks for the tips Tom! I came the same conclusion that a heaver leather for both the flap and the belt loop would be a much better idea. I'll check out the Tandy tool mentioned, always room for more tools!

ahh... for my next one.... move the belt loop up a little more, and make the top a bit more narrow.... that might work..... what else to do when snowed in? My son has his sporran on and is running around, but I don't think I have it in my to shovel out either car.
