Ive been following an ebay auction for a few days now and decided to jump in and bid...well I won!

an 1800's ( ok LATE 1800's but still!) brass fire helmet! I cant wait to see it in person! there's gonna be a few guys in the Dept. that are going to be friends with the green monster BIG TIME!!

ok just had to share! I havent had a jones like this since my last kilt!

I just had a flashback to our living room. We had a similar helmet on our shelf. It was a lovely piece of brass.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that helmet is a reproduction - probably only made last year. You will see the difference as soon as you get it out of the box. The modern tool-marks are plain to see on the inside. Re-read the advert - at no time does he say that it is in fact it is old - he says that it is collectible!

How do I know this? I bought the same item for my son for Christmas '07 from the same seller. I went through the dispute procedure with eBay and PayPal and in the end he won because he had not told any lies; he had only distorted the truth. Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware! Sorry.

I love the embossed dragon in the crest. I hope that you have occasion to wear it, and that it fits.

That's a thought - people were smaller - and that is not going to stretch. Finger's crossed then.

On British TV we have a program called 'The antiques roadshow' where all sorts of items are brought to whatever venue the team are at.

In the last week there was a collection of similar helmets, from English sources. The one from the Liverpool Brigade had Liver Birds, but non had anything as fancy as a dragon.

Of course - now you have it, you'll need to keep it polished, you never know when you might get a chance to show it off.
