Aye Monkey@Arms,
About a half dozen of the folks drove up from Berkley and Sacramento. Keep wanting to make a swing up that was since I've so many kin could probably room for free.

That is a nice kilt to be sure, great photos as always, I do like the Tilted Kilt jacket as well. How did the cousins take the news that this was their tartan?

What a fool I am. I'm trying to explain the reason I'm wearing the Scott tartan kilt to my neices and nephews...how it's THEIR tartan too... how their great grandmother was a Scott, and her father and her grandfather, and her great grandfather who fought in the War of 1812 and received a land grant for his service...
I got blank stares back from their pierced faces...no clue.
I did get extreme enthusiasm from my second cousin's boyfriend who thought the sgian dubh was hot and how cool was it to carry a knife in your sox....nice kid...just no clue...
My cousin said one of her daughters was all embarrassed that she had a second cousin that wore "dresses" all the time....when she arrived I teased her about it...she just clammed up and seemed to be okay with it the rest of the weekend.
Being the second oldest of the assembled clan I guess that bought off some tolerance...or they just tuned me out like the rest of their elders. I mean how does an 18 year old with piercings and a grunge look relate to a 64-year-old fat guy in a kilt?
It was a "no booze" gathering (a bunch of us amazingly have gotten sober) so that helped a little bit. So no boozy comments came flying around.
Its a bit optimistic, but I'm hopeful I made some inroads in tolerance and education.
What was SCARY, was most of the time I'm talking with my first cousins and my sibs we're talking about SOCIAL SECURITY and when we're eligible and what kind of Medicare supplement, and can we retire or will we keep working....a far cry from the heyday of our youth when we talked about being roudy.

Just don't go puddle stomping in a kilt.

One cousin's current wife is Chinese. First time we've met. Neat lady - she keeps him in line well and speaks English very well. We're all chatting away and she turns to me and says, "So, are you some kind of old hippie?"
Crack me up...

My sibs have seen me in kilts before, and one cousin, but not the rest of the cousins or second cousins or first cousins once removed....handled it well though.
