Hostile Reactions to a Fur Sporran?

Hello Dear Rabble: Before I commit a few hundred $ for a beautiful Ferguson Britt sporran, I need to ask the Rabble a question I've never heard asked before: Has anyone, while wearing a fur sporran, been "assaulted" by animal rights activists? The thought of someone throwing paint and simultaneously ruining a handcrafted sporran and my beloved tank gives me cold sweats!

I've never had a problem I own two Ferguson Britt sporrans a Muskrat and Skunk, and an L&M in Sealskin. Do you run into Animal Rights Activists often? If so L&M offers synthetic alternatives to real fur. If you are set on a Ferguson Britt however it would be real fur.

    Scott,

A thread about this hypothetical situation arises about once a year on XMTS

To my knowledge no one has ever indicated they, anyone they know, or anyone they have read about has been assaulted by animal rights activists.

However these sort of threads do have a tendency for some people to feel they can bash animal rights activists (which runs afoul of our "No Politics" rule).

Life is too short to worry about things that are extremely unlikely to happen

    Cheers

It is assault...no matter if it is real or synthetic, expensive or home-made. Walk with a root knob Irish walking stick and such idiots will generally stay out of your extended reach.

Thanks!! I personally don't have a problem with me or anyone else wearing real fur - actually, I very much prefer real fur. And while I've never heard of any such assaults here in Jacksonville or the surrounding areas, protecting my growing $ investment in my tank and FB sporran is a major concern.

Jacksonville is a very fur friendly town, especially the north side. I might add, it's also very kilt friendly. I play my pipes downtown and in five points quite often.

I own and wear 5 different fur sporrans made from the fur of three different variety of animals and have never once (save from my wife) heard any complaints in public. I even met a woman who works at the local zoo who loved seeing a full mask badger sporran on a friend at a recent kilt night out.
