    Another celebrity gone

I just read that Karl Malden has passed. Of all the celebrities that have passed recently, for me at least this is the most monumental. If you ever saw his work in films, you would agree with me. If you haven't, you need to rent some of his old films, yes, even the black and white ones. Start with "On the Waterfront."
    Respectfully,

That was one of the classics!!! He did a bunch of war movies, then the Streets of San Francisco with the young Michael Douglas.

He must have had some years on him, had to be near ninety!

And if you are/were a boxing fan of the late 70's and early 80's Alexis Arguello has also been found dead.

I always liked him. He didn't have the flash or charisma of many of the "Hollywood Stars". But he was the real deal The kind of man who you could have easily been your father or grandfather the kind of person you could invite over for dinner and have a good time talking to.

My goodness, what is happening? Karl Malden and Molly Sudgen were both great actors.

Wow. The first thing I think of when you say Karl Malden is "nose." The second is his performance as the Walrus in the 1980's CBS miniseries of Alice in Wonderland/ Through the Looking Glass. A minor supporting character, but you could tell that Malden was loving every minute of it.

Of course then I think of the ubiquitous Karl Malden American Express ads from the late 80's, but not in a bad way. Malden was a great pitchman for them. He gave a sincerity that has seldom since been seen in celebrity endorsements.

    Edit to add:

Oh wow. Mollie Sugden gone too. The true mistress of the double entendre. I've seen every episode of the original Are You Being Served? and while others in the cast were great actors and comedians, no one could ever top the team that was her and John Inman.

The world is definitely a poorer place for the passing on of these greats, but certainly richer because of their work.
