Please Help Finish Ensemble
i'll be attending a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for family friends (not direct family) in october and would appreciate some help finishing off my ensemble. it is an afternoon dinner which i expect to be informal (not casual).
for sure:
ferguson modern kilt (pictured below)
white long sleeved shirt
plain black jacket (blazer tailored to kilt length)
black dress shoes (pictured below)
unsure of color hose and type of tie.
the hose i have all match the kilt: navy, forest green or hand mades pictured below.
the ties i have are black necktie, ferguson modern necktie or black bowtie. i'm open to purchasing new tie.
WOULD APPRECIATE FEEDBACK ON HOSE AND TIE.
thanks in advance.

Looks good, can't see anything wrong with the hose you have on in the picture. I think a black bow tie would be inappropriate considering the time of day.Not too keen on tartan ties and black is a bit morbid. Pity you have not got a club tie(style) of some sort, they are very versatile, have a look around as you are in the market for a tie. Have fun.

I agree the pictured hose look great. I think a black tie probably isn't best for the afternoon setting. Jock is on to the right idea... a club tie with only a couple of colors to it would be good... for your tartan, something with red and navy could work.
If you feel the pictured hose are too much, you could go with either the navy or forrest green hose you mention, with some solid red flashes.

I usually wear a gold silk tie and kerchief in my pocket to slightly formal day wear (all my kilts have a yellow stripe)
I would go with red in your case to tie in (pardon the pun) with a red hanky to draw on the red stripe. It always makes the stripe pop out doing this.
As for the hose those in the picture while great for informal, look far to informal in my opinion if its a semi formal, but I do tend to be more old school about this. So I would go with black or blue hose with a flash to match the red or if you have a set to match the kilt that would be solid.

Love the hose you've got on. For a tie, yeah, steer away from black. I think Jock was spot on recommending a club-style tie.

I would say keep what you've got including the lovely hose. As for the tie, a club tie would be great, if however you do not have one, might I suggest a tie in one of the secondary colours of the tartan. My parents had their 50th anniversary this summer this is what I wore:
Please Note I did wear a jacket it was over my chair while dancing.

I think I would get a tie in red to match those hose.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

Thanks glad to be hear.
Just remember buy the tie live to get a close match sometimes the internet pictures can be wildly inaccurate due to differences in colour settings, monitors and light used in pictures etc.
I am sure that you will look the part what ever you end up in. Will there be many kilted or are they being boring lol. Sometimes its hard to make an impact in a room of 50 kilts after all.
