Deadliest Warrior
Word on the NASGA site is that legendary Highland Games athlete, Francis Brebner is starring in an episode of this show. I guess the idea is that warriors from different times and places are pitted against one another and somehow it's a part computer game part TV series. Apparently guys get a bunch of training from weapons experts from various traditions, and then whail away on dummies and so so. There are a mess of sensors measuring their actions and effects. It all goes into a computer somehow and at the end, the two combatatants have a virtual fight. I really don't know, perhaps some of our members do.
At any rate Francis Brebner is an extremely well built and good-looking man, he'll make a great model for the warrior.

It will be a good show to watch... sometimes the results have surprised me.. and it's interesting to see weapons used that I was not aware of..

I saw the one awhile back where William Wallace took on Chaka Zulu (sp?). Wallace won!

I've seen the first season of this show and it's quite interesting in terms of the hypothetical match-ups they pick, the scientific tests of the damage capacity of various ancient weapons, and the dramatized/virtual fights at the end.
The William Wallace episode can be seen here.

I keep having to remind myself that the show is for entertainment purposes only. Otherwise I immediately start critiquing the choices for matchups and lackadaisical way in which the two technogeeks assess weapon potential. It's painfully obvious that in melee combat, that unarmored Zulus are going to be at a disadvantage if it's assumed that every Highlander would be in chain mail.

Thanks for the link. I spent the better part of an hour at work this morning watching the whole episode.

My Granny could have taken that wee lad they had playing Shaka Zulu. The real Shaka was probably at least twice that little fellows size. If you have seen the movie "Zulu" you know they can be twice as intimidating. Wallace would still have won though.

That show is a joke, but it's entertaining. It's not scientific in any way, however.
