It's only tacky with pleats. If it fits properly, and you're tan and tattooed. it's a Sarong, and then totally cool. The Maori completely rock the Sarong.
btw.
I need a sarong.
and some tats
and a bleedin' tan.
I look like something lodged in a cellar in some Edgar Allen Poe story.
Gods, I hate winter above the tropics!
Seriously, you can measure my pulse by counting the way my veins change colours. Flat grey to bright blue, .80 a second.
I'm nearly a Morlock at this point.
I seriously need some SUN.
Please....

Why? Because they are not tartan or solid colored? This is the modern kilt forum. We've seen plenty of kilts with different patterns over the years ranging from the ever-popular camo to TFCK's pinstripes. By definition all kilts are skirts, including traditional ones (though, of course, not all skirts are kilts.) Whether you care to wear a kilt made with an Aloha pattern, is a personal choice. Personally, I don't care for them. Simple answer, you don't like it, don't buy it.
Best regards,
Jake

I've had one of these for years. The one I have is called "Hot Lava" with a slightly different pattern than the "Red Lava" they now show. They are perfect around a pool, beach or cruise ship. Trust me.

I'm gonna have to look into that. Thanks for the idea.

I think they look great (but consider the source )
Could I ever get Bob into one? He wears "aloha" shirts all the time. I'll have to think about the approach. . .
Would also be cool, and perhaps less polarizing, to make a solid box-pleat with tropical print inserts.

Agreed, but that's a sarong--and my pastor who was a minister in Malaysia is not tan or tattooed and he wore a sarong last mission trip we went on... I don't know if he "rocked" it though. Thing is, that's a completely different tradition and bird all together.

I honestly don't see how this being the "modern" kilt forum precludes the question of whether or not this qualifies or rather deserves to be associated with the title "kilt". It doesn't really look like a man's garment to me... whereas a sarong with a similar pattern does. Perhaps it's conditioning: I've seen floral patterns on skirts all my life, seeing such on a "kilt" doesn't register as a kilt in my mind.
