custom sgian dubh and more...
One person asked in the forums here for a custom sgian dubh maker since he wanted to buy a custom sgian for a wedding. Two suggestions that were bandied about were Rab Gordon (not if you are in a real hurry) and The Real Sgian Dubh Company with RSD being a possibility since they can delivery quickly.
Not to denigrate the sgian makers here, but I think this person was looking for something fairly dressy like this: ![](http://www.mackenziefrain.com/images/www.mackenziefrain.com/thumb/th2301174778101walrus_knife_done.jpg)
Although, I would add that RSD doesn't do much in the way of fancy custom, but their product is nice. And they deliver quickly/
You can blow a lot of money on a really fancy custom sgian (e.g., House of Labhran and MacKenzie-Frain). Another place I found was Highland Clans, which has since spun off their sgian business to their silversmith, Ian Campbell.
Anyway, I have been drooling over some of the goodies at Highland Clans (not just sgians) and finally contacted Highland Clans about having a sgian made, which leads to this tale.
Instead of having just one made, I've had 7 made so far in less than a month by Ian. Here are some of the sgians I've had made for me.

Yes, he made the Gordon and Black watch sgians. He does the restoration work for the Black Watch regimental museum and is pretty good with his regimental sgians (and dirks).
Ian is a master silversmith who trained at Hamilton and Inches in the 80s and has 30 years experience . He is willing to make sgians of any type (as opposed to the traditional versions I like).
He can also do any other type of Highland jewelry you might want, such as cantles, kilt pins, plaid brooches, and so on.
