Hi, Dale, and welcome from the bottom end of Africa.
Having already replied to at least one of your posts, it feels to me as if you are a native already!
Regards,
Mike

It's not a uniform per se, but an ensemble I put together with the help of someone who did reconstruction of early-to-mid-1700s Highland attire (for the jacket and waistcoat). I have a full-length photo linked here. I decided I wanted solid colors and went for a navy-blue wool Highland jacket, with dove-grey cuffs to complement the dove-grey wool waistcoat. I'm wearing a fall-collar linen shirt (single button, at the throat), linen neck stock, "flat" knit wool blue bonnet from TartanWeb. A concession to modernity is the sett of the belted plaid, which is medium weight double-width Douglas Modern tartan yardage from Lochcarron, 4.5 yards long.
That photo was taken the day we were shooting illustrations for this book -- that's me on the cover, being mugged for my nice shoes by one of my own blackguard black belts. :-)

Oh: It may look like the jacket has military-style lapels, but it doesn't. Actually it buttons to the throat exactly as the waistcoat does; but it's lined in the same grey wool as the waistcoat & cuff, and I'm just leaving it unbuttoned.
I've worn the jacket & waistcoat with modern kilt, with the addition of a black lace jabot and full-mask Silver Fox sporran, to things like Burns Dinners. Rather than thinking it anachronistic or costumey, folks simply thought it a very uniquely formal look.
