Shopping for Halloween costumes whilst kilted...

I took my kids Halloween costume shopping the other day, and when I walked by the Big Shot Scot costume,

this little kid looked at me and said "Look, mom! That guy has one of those!" Mom said "No, buddy, his is the real thing!" and came over to compliment me on it. I was wearing an Irish saffron by the way.

Another... ahem... gentleman later that same trip said to me "Looks like you're all ready!" I said "For what?" He said "Halloween! You've got your costume!" I asked how he could possibly know that, since I wasn't there looking for a costume for myself and had nothing in my hands. He said "Well, that kilt! That's your Braveheart costume, right?" I was wearing an Iron Maiden t shirt and boots, so I responded "Yeah, they had Carhart boots heavy metal back in the 13th century." He just kinda wandered away...

I was going to say, Nighthawk, your family should dress up like mangled train cars for Halloween.

But now I've got to ask, what are the little Hawklings going to wear for costumes?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I got a similar comment the other day. "You are all dressed for an early Halloween, Highlander!"
Calmly, I asked if it was my highland sneakers or my highland fleece that gave me away.

Well, since you asked, my son is going as a werewolf, and my daughter is a zombie cheerleader. (Yeah, that cheerleader thing made me want to hurl, too. Kids... Always have to be a "dead" something!)

Could have been a zombi Pippy Longstockings, or zombi smurfette...

    ...zombie longstockings?

Hey, just be glad none of your kids decided they wanted to go wearing a shower curtain, barrel, bicycle tires, or any of the other stuff that's been seen at the "anything but clothing" parties around here.

Or half the stuff I see at closing day at Vail, which is generally about the same as what grown-ups wear to halloween parties when kids aren't around.

    Been there!

I was coming home from a piping gig last week and stopped by a Halloween shop in my kilts.

Yep somebody said "It's the time", I guess meaning it's the season for dressing up. I told him I was coming from a funeral.

BTW we had our Halloween party last Friday, our department from Disneyland. I was dressed as one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion:

The other guy came dressed in a full suit of armour, King Arthur's armour from the movie Excalibur no less, which he had made himself! By this time in the party all he had left on was the leg pieces, but he put on the helmet for the photo.

Here he is as he arrived:

Here I am with my daughter, Sanji from One Piece:

Leading up to the party, people from my work were saying things like "I'm finally going to see you wearing your kilts" and I had to explain that I wore kilts all the time and to me they weren't a costume.
