    Tartan Ruana

Something has been keeping me busy for the past few days which is why I couldn't start sewing my next kilt till December 1st. It's a MacDonald of Clanranald Muted tartan ruana for my wife.

I laid out the cloth on the table. This incidentally is the table I have been doing all my sewing on so far.

Traced a circle for the neck hole at the centre point and cut that away. Then I tore the fabric into the neck hole.

I rolled, pinned, basted and stitched the seam together.

Then I fringed the front and back which was the biggest time consumer in the project.

Tough to get a good picture of the whole thing yet.

It's 16oz so it should keep her as warm as any wool sweater and be a ton more fashionable. All I need is a nice brooch to go with and I can wrap it up and stick it under the tree.

    Back to kilt making now.

    Well done.
That title certainly got me curious.
When you mentioned "ruana" I thought you were referring to a red-haired lass!

That's awesome. I bought one for my fiancee last Christmas and she is the envy of the office in the colder months. I'll have to think about making her on in MacPherson for home.

Too funny. I had no idea what a Ruana was and when I saw the first photo I thought "Huh, X has started making tartan tablecloths!!"

It's a short day you don't learn something new around here!

Well done X , I am sure she will love it. Perhaps you could do one of those partial blurring deals for the photo op?

I too did not know what a "Ruana" was. I think I'm gonna give this a go as well at some point. This looks really great!
