First, welcome.
Second, I haven't used sporran hangers and can't say that I like or dislike the look. What I have noticed is that they seem to be liked by "men of substance" some of whom can look like they are spilling over a strap or chain. I haven't used them because I usually remove my sporran in the car if I'll be driving a while, and sometimes remove it in the house. It appeared that this would be a bigger pain with hangers as opposed to a strap. That and I didn't want to add weight to the belt and wind up hitching it up all the time.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

As the original GoS, I will say that most of the previous statements are accurate. I use hangers for all but formal occasions. I find no problem with the sporran pulling down in front, it is easily moved/removed and it remains at a proper height. When wearing a strap, if it is well positioned the "pooching" issue is avoidable. MY main issue with using a strap is that I have difficulty keeping it up if I don't use the belt loops and if I do, the strap seems to pull down the kilt far more than the hangers do. I think there is just cause to have both hangers and straps in your wardrobe and use them as you see fit. The proceeding is just one, fat, old mans' opinion.

Thanks for the advice. I went over to USA Kilts today and picked up a sporran strap. It's easy to take on and I can just push the sporran to the side when driving.
Thanks again.

I prefer the hangers to the belt or the chain.

Hello and welcome! I have one sporran hanger of tobacco brown that I wear with a matching Rob Roy sporran. For me, it's for very casual daywear and makes for a nice alternative to the sporran belt. I do not wear it with a tweed jacket or in the evenings. I'm not a rulemaker; just telling what makes me comfortable.

When you use the hangers the belt will be pulled down. The strap seems to work better if I'm out at a bar or a party. I've tried it both ways. I wear the hangers if I wear the kilt to work so I can take the sporran off and on easier. Get both like a couple of posts suggested and you'll find what works best where.

Yes indeed!
It's why I prefer to have my sporran on a plain leather sporran belt rather than a chain strap. I can just slide the sporran to one side at the necessary times, rather than having to move the whole belt/chain assembly around my body.

Welcome,
I have Sporran belts, straps, and hangers. I prefer the hangers for all but formal occassions. I do not carry heavy items in my sporran so have not had a "pull down" problem on my kilt belt. To each his own, and all opinions are respected.
