Pinstriped waistcoat with kilt
Hello everyone!
I recently acquired a nice pinstriped waistcoat, and was wondering what the general opinion on pinstriped clothing with a tartan kilt is? My kilt is BW tartan, and the waistcoat is black with fine gray pinstripes. I thought it could look good with a red/purple/(insert other bright color here) tie and coordinating garter ties.
Thanks for the thoughts,
Seth

I think it could work, with BW being quite a muted tartan a loud tie can be used to quite good effect to brighten up your outfit. I would recommend red if you have it and for your flashes.
Try it out and take some pics. See what you think then put them up here and see what everyone else thinks.

There is an old saying, don't mix stripes and checks but as Jordan has said, I think it would be better if you could put a pic up. From your description of the waistcoat I think it could work with the black watch tartan

I've always heard (and adhered to) 'Don't mix stripes and spots'. I'm wearing a blue pinstripe waistcoat with my MacDonald of the Isles Modern kilt right now. Goes great.

A pinstriped vest, or vest and jacket, could work very well. It's all in how the patterns co-ordinate. You could even wear a checked shirt and striped tie with it!
Check out this thread for a discussion, and some nice example photos.

Well, I will start by thirding the "We need pictures!!" responses.
And then I will say that I've been wanting a pinstriped waistcoat to go with mine for a long time.

Sounds risky but it could work. Agree on wanting to see a pic or two of the proposed combo.

Pictures are soon to come! I tryed taking some several minutes ago, but to no avail. The pin stripes are so fine that they didn't really show up indoors, natural light will be necessary.

I would count that a good omen. I would guess the wide contrasty "pin stripes" favored by 1920's Chicago gangsters and big big big Wall Street money aren't going to work.
Subtle enough stripes that you need better light to photograph them, to me, is a good sign that this could work.
