Thanks, Rocky!
I had wondered about his family background. His biography says that it is German, but there are threads--by "crest companies"--that it is of Scottish origin.

I was striving for a joke about 'keeping up with the Noths' here, but then decided there has been enough Canadian conflict on this thread already.

If you ever watch him on law and order (regular and C.I.) he always wears tartan ties... usually Gordon and Stewart.

Oh, wow! I never noticed. I shall have to look. It's been years since I watched the show. I would just go on seeing it shot live by my workplace. They loved the neighborhood.
I wonder if the connection is through his mother.

Watched the show for years and never noticed his ties either. Too busy looking at Chris Noth LOL
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

There seems to be an reluctance for men to show their knees these days. It appears to be the present trend in short trousers (shorts here) as well. More and more they seem to be worn half way between the knee and the ankle. Are men suddenly ashamed of their legs or something? We've see a similar trend in basketball shorts over the past 30 years or so. Not sure if they're related.
I don't know, if you ever saw what my knees looked like, you'd probably tell me to cover up as well!

As a reminder, Chris Noth used to play a police detective on one of the earlier seasons of "Law and Order" for which his Irish-American character always wore a tartan tie (a different one each week)...with his leather jacket.

If you check further, I think you'll find he was wearing Logan, which was his characters last name on Law and Order.

He tended to wear all different tartans. I saw an episode once that had Lindsay in the tie...
Has anyone seen the pictures of the dress created out of the new Ellis Island tartan? I thought the dress was...hmmm...hideous...but I'd like to see a swatch of the tartan...
