    A Wee Woman

I/We are going to the Highland Games in Victoria British Columbia. I will be wearing my kilt (Scott Modern Green Tartan)
My woman likes to see me in a kilt. Thank the Universe.
Do any of the Highland Lassies have a suggestion as what she could wear as we are a couple. She is a fine wee Finnish Lass and has traveled extensively to Ireland and in Scotland.
I am wearing a casual kilt (Jabobite) as I was Border Born in Ireby Cumerland. My history goes back to John Peal...Now far too cruel for Fox Hunting anymore. My Mother and Father donated so Many relics to the British Museum and my sister still holds John Peals hunting coat, horse whip and many photographs. I am not as interested in my mothers side of the family (McGuffie)... I have that history. I do take an interest in my ancestry on me Dads side (The Scotts) who were mostly wiped out in the Battle of Culloden My ancestor came home much wounded. He farmed with his sheep, dogs and cattle many years. I know he did fight in some other skirmishes as all the Border Clans did. I have not done the research yet as I should and will do.

I regress and would like anyone to respond as to what would be appropriate for my woman to wear to The Highland Games in Victoria British Columbia .

I would let the wee lass wear the tartan she likes. However, I do love it when my wife and I wear the same tartan.

I bought my own lass one of these in one of my own family tartans:

It's in a lightweight tartan fabric, and can be arranged & worn in a variety of ways.

I vote stole or shawl, whichever she would prefer.

Thankfully our green tartan has plenty of colors in it. My bride can easily choose freely among three quarters of her wardrobe without a second thought when I am kilted inthe green. My wee lass, (I am a foot taller than she) tends to wear whatever she wants.

Besides my groom's plaid, which I won't need again in this lifetime, I also gave her my brooch as it is part and parcel with the plaid.

We are, I think, quite a smashing couple when she is in her clan red pleated skirt and I in the clan green kilt, though it is a rare occasion and I am sure the mere idea causes native Scots to wince. When I order a clan red tartan kilt for myself I expect I'll simultaneously order a skirt for her in either the monochrome or dress sett.

The brooch is really too heavy for her to wear without the plaid, I have been watching for a stag trippant pin in a light enough weight for her to wear with whatever girly clothes she chooses for such an occasion.

I have considered the weathered green to be made into a purse, but predicting the size purse she might require on any given day eludes my insight. Perhaps I can find a nondestrutcive way to mount the brooch on a couple of her purse colelction.

An option would be to order the smaller size buckled clan badge from Scottish Tartans Museum and have that made into a necklace.

I also (it just occured to me) wonder if suitable tartan hose might be altered for the cuff to continue up the leg for lady's wear rather than turned down as kilt hose for men's wear. More wincing natives I am sure, but I think they might look great on my wife.

All in all I wouldn't sweat it at all, unless she expresses a sincere interest. Our member creagdhubh spends a great deal of time in Scotland and is on a first name basis with his clan chief. Recent picture thread here:

and I think this is the first time I have ever seen creagdhubh's wife wearing a piece of clan regalia.

I was wrong. Here is the thread before that one, she is wearing the same tartan informally as a fashion scarf:

Kyle, I am honestly not stalking your wife. In your threads I am always looking for whether your tie is in a four in hand or windsor knot, that kind of stuff. How much knee you got showing. How long is your waistcoat.

Good luck sevenoaks, your wife clearly does not have to tartan up to fit in.

I would vote for a sash as perhaps the most versatile tartan item she can own, and one not too expensive. She can wear it casual over a blouse and jeans for the Highland Games, and also over a nice evening dress when she accompanies you to the Burns Supper in January.

If she'd like something a bit less than a sash, a simple scarf in the tartan would also work in much the same way (especially as she is smaller in stature).

Of course if she wants to go all out, there are virtually limitless options in terms of styles of skirts, shawls, stoles, capes, wraps, dresses, and other such like.

In Texas heat, many women wear the sash (as you see on the STM webby linked by Matt) on one shoulder pinned with a small brooch, penannular, or clan crest pin.

I've seen a number of the long tartan skirts Kathy Lare sews up - they are most impressive, you might consider that option too.
