Red Deer Highland Games 2011
June 25th was the day of the 64th Annual Red Deer Highland games and so I thought I would finally attend. I've been in this area my whole life and yet never made it to the games, so it was high time.
My sister Catherine.
My brother, Luke. Soon to be recipient of a SWK thrifty Youth kilt. He's quite pleased with that, but was disappointed that it was not there in time for the games.
Myself! Catherine and I sported our family colors by way of Grandma's sashes, though we wore them non traditionally.
The Clans who were in attendance this year. Clan Ellis was also there, but I seem to have missed getting a picture.
The only black Scottie dog we saw.

One of the girls from the Dance Competition.
The women's caber toss. I believe this is Megan Melham.
The Men's Caber toss.
The 78th Fraser Highlanders re-enactment group putting on a black powder rifle demonstration.
Our cousin, Enid, was among the dancers competing. She's a junior instructor in St. Albert.

Wellington shoes?
This young man was the standard bearer for the Fraser Highlanders and the shortest of the lot. He carried himself well, despite the standard being bigger than he was!

Red Deer is about right smack in the middle of the province of Alberta.

Great pictures, and thanks for posting! I used to have relations in Red Deer, and now have some in Lacombe. I'll be at the Calgary and Canmore games in September, if you're going.

My family lives out in Lacombe! Sadly, I don't think I'll be making the Calgary games. I've put in for vacation time to go visit my husband in October so I've been told I'll be working a lot of weekends leading up to my time off.
