Colville tartan
Good Morning, Guys!
My stepfather is a Scot and his father was born in Campbelltown. His father came to the United States as a small child around 1905. His surname is Colville. I am trying to find out if there is a Colville tartan and/or what clan the surname is most closely related to. I understand from some piper friends in the area that there are still many Colvilles in the Campbelltown area. The name is French in origin and I understand that the Colville ancestors came to Scotland in the 15th or 16th centuries. My stepfather heard one story that Mary, Queen of Scots put the Colvilles under her special protection, this would figure given her close ties and association with France. My stepfather thinks the Colville name is related to the Stewart clan but another source said the stronger association was with the Lindsay clan, hence one of my kilts is of the Lindsay tartan. Any information would be most appreciated! Have a great Sunday guys!
