help with a hem question (Weavers)
OK i made this kilt out of 8 years of Campbell dress Argil. it did not have a kilt hem in it! tho it said it had one. so obviously i have to hem it but i don't like the thickness of this. is it possible to cut the hem long fray the threads and weave them back up in to the kilt with out it showing? i know this is a lot of work but i'm really in to sewing big time and i don't mind complexsitys. i always see it as a challeng to learn new things. any one want to comment on this idea. im pretty sure its possible as i have a limited knowledge of weaving and some garment restoration techniques but i don't want to try it if its going to look bad. it sure would be nice to have a good edge to my kilt. it was vary expensive fabric 16 Oz wool from Scotland took almost a month to get.
i guess what im asking is how many threads back in to the fabric do i need to weave it and what is the pattern of weave for a twill. i know at one time i knew this but iv forgotten the exact numbers of over and under's. i think its two over and two under?
any ideas would be great thanks for reading and helping in advance
Paul
