If I Had To Do It All Over Again
Think I started wearing kilts a bit over seven years ago. Since then I've purchased 69 kilts and have one on order now...so, soon 70 kilts. But I've sold off 35 of them that I "outgrew."
These are only my personal opinions and not intended to put down any vendors. Just different horses for different courses.
I would not have bought the three Sportkilts I did. Back then it was "pleated to the gather" for the first two. I tried one with sewn down pleats when they came out but wasn't impressed.
As much admiration as I have for Mike at AmeriKilts, and his service I don't think I'd have bought the three solid color AmeriKilts. I did love the Tiger Stripe Camo kilt and still think he offers the best quality and value on basic kilt belts.
I woulda bought a tartan Freedom Kilt with pockets instead of the cargos...but tartans weren't offered back then. Still on my wish list.
Should have ordered more Pittsburgh Kilts before Jeff quit the business.
Would have ordered my leather RKilts sooner.
Would have ordered my first USA Kilt sooner. The praise for Rocky was so lavish on the kilt boards I figured it couldn't be true - had to be a shill. Well, it is true and after I risked my first USA Kilt I wound up owning 13 casuals and 13 semi-trads and would probably own more if there weren't a limit to his tartan offerings. Have my first wool kilt on order from him.
I never would have ordered so many Utilikilts - especially the Mockers. I'm glad I got my leather Utilikilt before they quit making them and since it has the corset adjustment feature its the only Utilikilt I didn't outgrow. I never would have bought the experimental Medical White Original off the scratch and dent rack. It didn't go with anything except a hospital or snow. I would have stuck with a Caramel Workman's, Basil Survival II, Woodland Camo Original, and Blue Denim Original. But, I gotta admit I have my eye on a digital camo survival.
Overall, I woulda shoulda coulda gone to tartan kilts sooner than I did - and shoulda woulda coulda bought kilts with better waist adjustments - like kilt straps so I didn't outgrow them so fast.
I've learned that the killer part of kilt addiction isn't the kilts - its the accessories...yee Gods the horror of the financial impact of accessories...
I've come to savor quality workmanship - my hand sewn wool kilts and my leather kilts...they help me appreciate the full range of kilts.
I am grateful that my body size precluded me from ordering any acrylic kilts that come in one length only. I don't think I'd have liked them.
Don't know if that will help anyone....just was ruminating on it this morning and felt like typing.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
