Re: Hunting & Dress MacLean pix
I also never understood the "proper highland attire" argument. No, you don't want someone walking around in a kilt looking like a bum, but it was created as a utilitarian garment. Just about everything in highland attire was designed for a purpose, not fashion. Kilts and other highland attire did not catch on until "highlandism" spread much later in history as a form of Scottish nationalism. Until that period it was regarded as the "dress of thieves". I cannot remembered who said that, but I can give it later if someone wants to dispute that. It was said in regard to English royalty wanting to be kilted for a Highland presentation. In my humble opinion you should wear it proudly, with honor of your ancestry, and leave the fashion dos and don'ts to annoying television shows.
