Just to stir things up a bit, as is my wont. I received a wonderful book from an old friend as an unexpected Christmas gift. I believe the book is titled simply "Highland Games" or perhaps "Scottish Highland Games" (I don't have it in front of me) and was written and published in Scotland in the 1970s. When I get a chance I am going to read it and write up a review in the appropriate section of the forum. So far I have only thumbed through it. It includes historical notes on the bigger events in Scotland and has extensive sections dedicated to heavy athletics, light athletics, and piping, giving in each section an accounting of all the major players, records, etc. The thing I found most interesting, though, was a group picture of the top pipers from a competition. John Burgess was among them. And he was wearing white kilt hose. I suppose every man has his off days.
