Back on the River in a WOOL Kilt!

So late last summer I won a contest and the prize was a free float trip down Glen Canyon. Cashed it in today. Risked wearing a wool kilt down the canyon for the first time. My USA Kilts 5 yard in Cameron Modern.

Usually take a backpack too but this time went with a Scottevest travel vest and no sporran and no backpack. Seems everyone else had a backpack. Like those multi-pocket vests in lieu of a sporran and backpack. Even stuffed in an extra lens and waterbottle.

Only one sour note. I sat by the water jug on the raft and the guide was a lady that's known me for years. She appointed me water boy. Some nasty man in the back of the raft said, "You mean water girl." I looked at him very firmly and said, "Its a kilt." He never said another word.

After the trip had lunch at a local restaurant and the cook came out to talk to me asking seriously about the tartan and my clans. We had a lovely chat. He said he was descended from the Kents of Glasgow. Kind of offset the funny boy on the raft.

Saw LOTS of wildlife including a herd of 8 desert bighorn sheep. Here are pictures from along the way.

    First water below the dam.

Glen Canyon dam aka the "damn dam."

Little Niagra falls. From seepage around the dam and through the sandstone. Yeah, it leaks...

Big crowd up on top of the cliffs at Horseshoe Bend as we float past. There's a trail to this overlook.

John Wesley Powell named this Finger Rock. I call it "Same to you fella!" Rock or Insult Rock.

Glen Canyon is a trout fisherman's paradise so there are lots of fishing boats on the river coming upstream from Lees Ferry.

A huge sand dune from sand blown over from Page, AZ which is at the top of the cliff.

Colorful Chinle Formation rocks coming into Lees Ferry.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
