So, as mentioned in another thread, I was fortunate enough to be invited to this years Garden Party at the British Embassy in Oslo to celebrate the Queens Birthday and also this year her Diamond Jubilee. This brought with it a rather panicked attempt to obtain a tweed day wear jacket and waistcoat, which Hector Russell quite magnificently managed to ship to me in time for the party. Top score for service and helpfulness to the kind people at HR!
A day or two after the party a colleague of mine asked if it was me posing in my kilt in the newspaper, so I ran out and got a copy of said paper and found to my surprise that it was indeed me in the picture! A cropped facsimile of the article is shown in the picture below. The caption reads something along the lines of this;
"SO BRITISH:
There was a truly British theme at the garden party, where kilts and Mini's (right) and fancy hats fit right in. Bjørn Tore Godal was dressed a true gentlemen with his umbrella (above right)"
I emailed the journalist and asked if I could have a copy of the picture, a request which the photographer very kindly agreed to accept. So, in the picture below you can see how I apparently try to pull of a "stiff upper lip" in my brand new jacket and waistcoat whilst gently stirring my Pimm's... It was quite an interesting afternoon, with Norway's financial "elite" present along with ambassadors and military personnel from several countries. Her Majesty's Ambassador was even kind enough to compliment me on my attire as one of only three kilted gentlemen at the event.
