Greetings from the Lost
Hello,
I have been doing much research lately on Snodgrass, for my girlfriend, and Adamson, for myself, which led me to the Tennessee Valley Scottish Society, since we live in Huntsville, Alabama, and one of the members there recommended this board for a reason that escapes me at the moment to someone else. In any event, I came and read many posts and gathered much information but not yet enough to feel comfortable making a purchase of skill or fabric. I was a Scots style Drum Major in high school and have been fascinated with the culture ever since.
Records seem to be hard to come by that include family affiliation without paying Lord Lyon for the privilege, but from what I have found so far, Snodgrass was in Irvine which was part of the Kingdom of Alba and so did not have the same customs of other lowland Scots let alone the Highland Scots, but have been granted an award of arms by Ireland even though the family didn't move there until the early 1600s and a tartan that was registered in 1977. On the other hand, Adamson is claimed by at least two different families and since my family records show that we came from Largo, Fife, Scotland I am not sure where exactly that puts me. It has been said that that particular Adamson,Archbald, was beholden to Gordon but his son left for America. The son, Alex, has many conflicting records about his son John who may or may not have been born in New Jersey, Maryland, or Pennsylvania. Family history is confusing me greatly.
So, assuming then that an ancestor was part of Gordon I plan on kitting in that fashion for now and paying someone to weave Snodgrass if I get married. I think that Snodgrass would take precedence over Adamson since Adamson comes from my mother's father. Anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong on anything. I am just stumbling around in the dark here.
Our first event will be October 6th held by our local group followed a few weeks later by our second at Stone Mountain Georgia.
