I'm pretty sure for you, 1500 is starvation. The consensus is that starvation levels of caloric intake cause you to pack on fat and break down muscle - your body is saving up in case the famine lasts a really long time and strategizing: you need to just live long enough to get through it. You know your body; it's different for everyone - but add me to the list of voices saying you should reeeally be sure that's the right approach before you jump in.

A short fast might benefit you; if anything I find it lets my body reset itself and I am better able to make good food choices after the initial discomfort wears off. Long term though? ehhhmmmm... Caution.
