Bruce of Kinnaird Tartan

Authorised by the then Lord Bruce of Kinnaird in 1953.

I should point out that the fact that it was authorised by a chief in 1953 has no bearing on the question as to the tartan's origins, beyond establishing that it existed by that date.

Case in point the numerous chiefs giving their stamp of approval to the spurious designs created by the English Allen brothers.

The Setts of the Scottish Tartans, published in 1950, only mentions the red Allen brothers' "Bruce".

Is there a photo of this supposed 18th century Bruce of Kinnaird coat anywhere? Has any weaver recently examined it and reckoned its thread count? Inquiring minds want to know.

BTW I'm very familiar with the Bruce of Kinnaird kilts worn by our regional band Mesa Caledonian, been seeing them around the games for decades. That tartan is strange because it juxtaposes so many odd colours: hot pink, lime green, mustardy orange, etc.
