The extended area around SW Utah is called "Utah's Dixie" because it used to grow a lot of cotton and was warm in the winter...down in the canyon it was cold enough to keep thick ice on Quail Creek though. Center of the first pic you can see the "Moki Steps" carved into the sandstone to get up the slickrock by the waterfall.
