Kilts and Jazz?
Hey everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself in a new thread rather than continuing to hijack Bill's. Got my first kilt (a black Original Utilikilt) a couple of months ago and have practically worn it out already!
My wife (who a Canadian of Scot, Welsh and French ancestry) has been trying to get me in a kilt for years (weddings and such), but I wasn't really comfortable with wearing tartans. Then at a street fair here in Brooklyn, we saw some Utilikilts and anytime my wife says "Boy, you'd look sexy in that!" I pay attention!
I'm a jazz musician/film composer and the reactions I get from other jazzers is quite interesting, indeed. One trupet player I know said, "I certainly wouldn't f@%# with you wearing that thing. I'd figure you must have some other sh** going on to have the balls to wear it in public. It's damn sexy, though!"
The best reaction, however, is from women I don't know. No kilt checks though, dammit.
I'm looking forward to an extensive kilt collection (though I love long dramatic coats too much to completely give up trousers!) and lots of fun posting and reading here.
