I have never owned a pair of said hose , consequently I have never worn a sgian on the outside, it was just not a style that attracted me. But my uncles certainly did and as I carry one of my uncles' sgian(his only one) I can say that the sheath has no clip or special wire attached to it. From that aspect, it is as any other sgian sheath that I have ever seen. Like many things in my life I paid little attention to the knot--I should have--- and any "in the know" tricks to hold the thing safely in place are gone. It all looked pretty precarious to me. Still it must have worked alright, otherwise I would not have it now!
