Ancient / Modern / Muted / Weathered... What's the difference?

In a recent thread, there was a brief discussion about what the difference was between Ancient / Modern / Muted / Weathered tartans. Wanting to simplify the question (forgetting the use of the term "Reproduction" as it is effectively the same as the rest of the mill's "Weathered" and Dress / Hunting) and bring it to a different audience, I wrote an article about it today:
