a cake for rhonda vincent
August 15-17 was a fine weekend for my little hometown. It got to play host for the North Carolina State Bluegrass Festival for the 3rd year in a row, and it seems to be the Festival's permanent home. I attended on Saturday, when Rhonda Vincent & the Rage were the headliners. As is the custom of bluegrass musicians, friendliness and appreciation for the fans is standard operating procedure. As is the custom of me, I take Rhonda a cake. Here is the one I made for her this year:

She and her band are sponsored by Martha White, maker of flour and other good baking stuff. She's known for giving away MW logo t-shirts, so I thought it would cool to give her one. The cake is blue velvet, as opposed to red velvet, covered in white fondant with the MW logo piped in royal icing. It looked kind of naked on the white cake board so I added a few blueberries and strawberries. By the time Rhonda posed for a picture with the cake, some of the strawberries had rolled to the ground.

In case you don't really believe I had anything to do with such a creation, here's photographic evidence. Yes, I really am in the picture.

The picture garnered 1,600+ "likes" on her Facebook page. I don't use Facebook, but some of you lot do, so you might want to see the picture there, too.
