    Child Utility Kilt

Some family friends were celebrating their daughter's first birthday. What better gift to give than a few gift cards so they can purchase what they really need. But, I wrapped the cards in a custom utility kilt, sized for a 18 month, so she can grow into it.

I used some remnant cotton duck cut to height, but took a wild guess on the length. So started with center back pleat and worked my way in each direction. Lots of pinning and sewed down the pleats.

Added a waist band, pocket and decorated with eyelets. I used velcro closure to make it easy for the parents.

Added belt loops. Made a belt, reversable, one side brown vinyl, the other purple. Why such a bright color? Because the parents were University of Louisiana graduates. The belt is decorative, as it's held in place with velcro hidden under the belt loops.

I stuffed the gift cards in the pocket and wrapped. Sorry there are no final pics as the parents are waiting for her debut on Facebook. So you'll have to make due with my model. (He's also my pin cushion.)
