I do nt mind smokey, but slap you in the face does not appeal to me.

I am still tryng scotches to find one to fit my love of irish whiskeys. Bushmills black label is pretty good.

Perhaps you should venture into one of the better blends. Dewar's 12 year Reserve is an excellent choice or if you want to touch your toe into a slightly peatier dram try the Famous Grouse Black Label. Blends are popular for good reason and are very often a very drinkable alternative to more expensive single malts.
