When my kilt came in I checked with HR to make sure they felt it was within the dress code - after explaining that no, it was not common to 'go regimental', they approved. Next was to check with the Boss - again the 'regimental' question, but he was cool with it. Next, the boss's boss (CIO). He said he'd feel a bit weird but that it would be okay on special occasions, and suggested St. Paddy's. It's a foot in the door - I can show up kilted on St. Andrew's day and at the Christmas party. Get them acclimated, and gradually just start wearing it regularly.

Everyone at the office was positive. I got to talk about the history of the kilt and about St. Patrick's likely Scottish origins.
