The University of South Carolina has announced that they have registered a tartan with the STA, though I can't seem to find it. Perhaps that is because U.S.C. frequently uses "Cocky" the gamecock as their mascot and the tartan may be known as "old cocky". The dirty mind of my workplace internet protocol prohibits searches that refer to roosters, etc.

It would seem that a company, COLLEGIATE TARTAN.COM, is in the business of ginning up support for college tartans and merchandising items with bits of the tartan sewn on. What I can't figure out is whether or not they are restricting these tartans- that is, do they assert exclusive rights to them? Has anyone had any experience with Collegiate tartans, either the concept or the company? Anybody had a run of college tartan fabric woven?
